The EMPLOYMENT Department of the ILO will present the latest edition of the Global Employment Policy Review, which focuses on the role of impact assessments, diagnostics, and social dialogue in addressing the question: “Do employment-responsive policies work?”&nbsp;The event will bring together authors to highlight key themes and information contained in the publication. Save the date and join us for a stimulating conversation with authors of the review, followed by an opportunity for comments, questions and exchanges after the moderated discussion.<h2>Background</h2>Good employment policies underpin efforts to create more and better jobs, help reduce inequalities and poverty, and empower people, especially women, young people and the most vulnerable such as persons with disabilities. What is more, these policies also help address decent work deficits and are critically important to the realization of the <a href="https://sdgs.un.org/2030agenda">2030 Agenda</a> and Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 8 on promoting sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. Impact assessments involving a variety of tools for evidence-based policy development can accelerate achievement of these global goals. Coupled with diagnostics and social dialogue they contribute to effective and informed policymaking for job creation and promotion, helping on decisions such as what works, where to invest, and how to do it.This latest edition of the Global Employment Policy Review (GEPR), a biennial publication prepared by the ILO’s <a href="https://www.ilo.org/node/5716">Employment Policy, Job Creation and Livelihoods Department</a> (EMPLOYMENT), examines these themes, offering new and innovative solutions to these challenges and opportunities while informing about tools, diagnostics, guides, major reports and other research undertaken by the department that support employment-responsive policies.

The International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the State of Qatar, the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations, and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), is convening a high-level special event on the margins of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly to launch its new report on the State of Social Justice in the World.Bringing together ILO Member States, social partners, UN partners, and civil society—ahead of the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held in Doha from 4 to 6 November—this event aims to generate momentum for placing social justice at the center of the multilateral agenda in 2026 and beyond.Participants will discuss how the report’s findings can inform policy and institutional responses to persistent inequalities, with particular attention to the role of decent work in shaping equitable and inclusive societies. The event will also provide a platform to examine the structural drivers of trust deficits within and among countries, while highlighting practical approaches to rebuilding confidence in public institutions and strengthening social dialogue.
