Organized by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in partnership with the ILO and UNDP, this side-event is aligned with Roundtable 1 on decent work and social inclusion and aims to build momentum for integrating decent work in recovery processes.&nbsp;Grounded in <a href="https://normlex.ilo.org/dyn/nrmlx_en/f?p=NORMLEXPUB:12100:0::NO::P12100_INSTRUMENT_ID:3330503">ILO Recommendation No. 205</a> and the Humanitarian, Development and Peace nexus approach, the dialogue will spotlight scalable interventions and collaborative strategies that promote employment, labour rights, strengthen social protection, and address challenges such as child labour in crisis contexts.&nbsp;Drawing on experiences from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Ukraine, the event will bring together governments, employers, workers, and civil society to co-develop actionable solutions that foster resilience, stability, and sustainable recovery in fragile and crisis-affected settings.

The Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions and its multistakeholder engagement mechanism (M-GA) place social development at the heart of economic development and ecological, demographic and digital transitions. They promote access to social protection, decent jobs, and skill opportunities, to ensure that these important transformations are just for different populations.&nbsp;&nbsp; The event will showcase how combined investments in employment, skills and social protection policies and programs can help achieve the three core objectives of social development (poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social integration). It will demonstrate how these investments can result in strong social and economic outcomes. In particular, the event will highlight how the Global Accelerator and the M-GA serve as practical vehicles for supporting the implementation of the WSSD2 political declaration.

Through an open, multi-stakeholder exchange, this <a href="https://social.desa.un.org/world-summit-2025/programme/high-level-round-table-1">first high level round table of the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025</a> will focus on strengthening the three pillars of social development: poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social inclusion.&nbsp;It will identify priorities for integrated actions that would accelerate social development progress and address critical cross-cutting issues, while taking into account global systemic trends and their impacts on the three core commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration.The Round Table will begin with welcome remarks by the Co-Chairs, followed by a keynote speech by a high-profile personality. These are followed by a moderated panel discussion composed of Heads of State and Government, selected NGO, private sector and/or intergovernmental organization&nbsp;

High level round table 1 - Strengthening the pillars of social development

This <a href="https://social.desa.un.org/world-summit-2025/programme/high-level-round-table-2">second high level round table of the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025</a> will focus on Assessing progress and addressing gaps and challenges in the implementation of the commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and its Programme of Action and giving momentum towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. It aims to stress the relevance of the social development agenda as foundational to the 2030 Agenda – as a moral imperative, as a roadmap, and as the engine of sustainable economic growth, effective climate action and peaceful and inclusive societies. In particular, the round table will take stock of persistent gaps and new challenges that undermine the implementation of the Copenhagen Commitments and slow progress towards the SDGs.&nbsp; The discussion will chart actionable pathways to translate the Copenhagen Commitments and Doha Declaration into tangible results in today’s global context. It will provide a high-level framing of the vision and priorities for social development in the coming decade, setting the stage for more detailed deliberations.The Round Table will begin with welcome remarks by the Co-Chairs, followed by a keynote speech by a high-profile personality. Partners of the Global Coalition for Social Justice will present tangible results and new commitments advancing social justice at a Special Event co-convened by the State of Qatar, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Swiss Confederation and the International Labour Organization (ILO), and during the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2).The high-level Global Coalition for Social Justice Forum will convene Heads of State and Government, social partners and senior officials from Coalition partner organizations to showcase and accelerate national and collective efforts to implement the Doha’s Political Declaration on Social Development. The Forum will also underline the role of the Coalition as a platform for mobilizing coordinated, multi-stakeholder action that places decent work and social justice at the core of sustainable development.Chaired by the ILO Director General, this high-level event will feature high-level addresses, a panel discussion bringing together leaders from governments and social partners to explore how collective engagement drives meaningful impact, and spotlight sessions showcasing&nbsp;partners’ contributions under the&nbsp;<a href="https://social-justice-coalition.ilo.org/about">Coalition’s key interventions</a>&nbsp;- highlighting concrete initiatives, partnerships, and policy pathways to deliver on the commitments of the&nbsp;<a href="https://docs.un.org/en/A/80/L.5">Political Declaration</a>.&nbsp;
